Exercise physiologists have expanded their research on skeletal muscle metabolism to the study of exercise as a stimulus to influence metabolism in other organs. These include liver, white and brown adipose tissue, and more recently microbiota. All these organs are influenced by the exercise stimulation in a way that has benefits to obese animals and humans. These effects will be described in this symposium with the intent to derive relevant implications for obesity management.
