Dr Lutfi is a Bariatric surgeon in a teaching community hospital in Chicago and a Clinical Associate Professor of Surgery at the University of Illinois at Chicago. He graduated from Damascus University as a physician and completed his general surgery residency at the University of Illinois at Chicago. He then went on to complete a research followed by a clinical fellowship in bariatric surgery at Vanderbilt University in Tennessee. He then moved back to Chicago to start the Chicago Institute of Advanced Surgery and became the Chief of Surgery at Mercy Hospital and the Director of Bariatric Surgery at the Chicago Institute of Advanced Bariatrics at St Joseph Hospital.Dr. Lutfi remained committed to serving our specialty. He became the fourth President of the Illinois Chapter of ASMBS and founded the Midwest bariatric Summit that today is attended by over 100 physicians and Allied Health yearly. He formed and Chairs the Private Practice Committee for ASMBS and was just voted to serve as the President of ASMBS Foundation.
